Taron Egerton intrigued by the idea of playing Wolverine in the MCU
In a recent interview with The One Show, ‘Rocketman’ actor Taron Egerton showed some interest in the idea of playing Wolverine in the MCU.
It’s hard to picture a world in which anyone plays the famous clawed mutant, Wolverine, besides the great Hugh Jackman. But with Marvel now owning the rights to the X-Men and the unlikelihood of Jackman returning, we might have to face that new reality.
While there have been a lot of rumors regarding who might next play Wolverine, one of the most popular fan-casts for the character is the talented Taron Egerton. Egerton has shown interest in joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the past, but in a recent interview, he shined more light on the idea of being a part of the mighty movie franchise.
In a recent interview with The One Show, Egerton candidly addressed the idea of taking over the mantle of the popular Marvel superhero.
"“Yeah, of course. That’s like playing Bond. It would be exciting to play a role where you play to by such a huge audience. Those movies are the most watched movies in the world. It’s a great thrill and it’s a great part. But there’s no truth in it. Very flattering, though.”"
You can tell that Egerton is very flattered by the fact that people want him to play the part of the Wolverine. If you aren’t familiar with Egerton, you might recognize him playing the role of Elton John in Rocketman, as well as playing a huge part in the Kingsman series.
Will Taron Egerton be cast as Wolverine?
While not cast yet, it seems like a good majority of people like the idea of Taron Egerton being the heir to the throne that Hugh Jackman once sat on.
No matter what direction Marvel decides to go in when they inevitably have to cast Wolverine, the casting choice will be controversial. That’s nothing against Egerton or whoever gets cast as the next Logan, it’s just the fact that Jackman did such an incredible job in the role for over a decade.
If Egerton is the one that people want to take over the mantle, then Marvel president Kevin Feige is definitely listening. Feige seems to be listening more and more to the fans as the years have gone on and the MCU has headed into a new direction of implanting more fan service into their films.
No matter what happens, it’s going to be extremely interesting to see what’s next for the character. I do feel that Egerton has a great chance at getting this role and I would be totally for it based on the performances he’s delivered in past roles. Wolverine is one of the most popular superheroes of all time and I think that the world is excited to see the direction in which the MCU takes this character.
