Was John Krasinski offered the role of Captain America?

Remember when we said Emily Blunt could have joined her husband in Captain America: The First Avenger? While John Krasinski is best known for starring as Jim in The Office, he was at one point considered for the role of Captain America. It turns out that casting Steve Rogers was a long process and a bit of a problem for Marvel Studios.

Krasinski even got the role at one point and started filming a costume test but decided that the role was not for him. According to an interview with Conan O’Brien, he saw Chris Hemsworth in his Thor costume and decided he didn’t have the bod to be in a superhero movie. No shade at him as we can imagine that trying to measure up to Hemsworth would be pretty intimidating.

We are pretty glad he turned the role down. No offense to Krasinski (and we saw his acting depth and movie-making skills in A Quiet Place) but it is hard to imagine any actor exemplifying Captain America as well as Chris Evans. He even seems to be Steve Rogers in real life at times with his active role in politics and how often he calls out wrongdoings on Twitter. It turns out, however, that Chris Evans turned down the role of Captain America a few times, too, before finally changing his mind. We sure are glad that Chris took the part on.
