Was Kate Hudson offered the role of Mary Jane Watson?

While the MCU definitely has more leading male roles than female, we wanted to point out as many women that almost got roles in the MCU as possible. This casting rumor goes back once again to an earlier version of Spider-Man. As you might remember, Kirsten Dunst played Mary Jane Watson in the Spider-Man trilogy that starred Tobey Maguire. Even though it’s been a while, it’s hard to forget that iconic upside-down Spider-Man kiss.

But Kate Hudson was actually approached to take the part before Kirsten Dunst. She ended up rejecting the role. Instead, she took a leading role in a movie called The Four Feathers which also starred Heath Ledger.

That movie didn’t end up doing so well with audiences, so we wonder if Kate Hudson wishes she had made a different decision. Kate Hudson hasn’t played any roles in the MCU so far.

This version of Mary-Jane is a bit outdated at this point, however, as Zendaya is now playing Michelle Jones (or MJ) in the MCU. While she didn’t have a huge part in Spider-Man: Homecoming, fans are excited to see more of Zendaya in Spider-Man: Far From Home. We also can’t wait to see where the films take this character in the future.
