More than four years after Warner Bros. first confirmed the film’s release, The Batman will finally be making its way into theaters this March.
Marking Robert Pattinson’s debut as the newest Dark Knight, The Batman‘s road to the big screen has been an interesting one. After years in development, the film was originally set to drop in June 2021. However, due to the pandemic, Warner Bros. was forced to delay the film’s release until March 4, 2022.
We’re now only days away from the film’s arrival in theaters, but we have some bad news for those hoping to be able to watch the film from the comfort of their homes via HBO Max.
While many Warner Bros. original movies have made their way to HBO Max the same weekend of their theatrical release — including Wonder Woman: 1984 — The Batman will not be debuting on HBO Max on March 4. Instead, the film will release exclusively in theaters, meaning those hoping to see the movie will need to head to their local theaters or wait until it becomes available to stream.
So when might that be?
The Batman HBO Max release date
At this time, HBO Max has not announced the official release date for The Batman but we do know the film is coming to HBO Max and it could be as early as April 2022.
In a 2021 Deadline report, it was noted that Warner Bros. had struck a deal with Cineworld, the owner of Regal Cinemas, for a 45-day exclusive theatrical window starting in 2022. This means that Warner Bros. movies will need to be in theaters for at least 45 days before they can make their way to a streaming service such as HBO Max.
As a result of this deal, it’s possible The Batman could hit HBO Max as early as Monday, April 18 which would put us out 45 days from the film’s March 4 release date.
Once an official release date has been set we’ll be sure to let you know. The only thing we know for certain is that Matt Reeves’ Batman flick won’t arrive on HBO Max in March.
