Batman: DC Comics’ Bat-Family characters ranked from worst to best
By Mark Lynch
11. Duke Thomas (Signal)
Duke Thomas was destined to be a different member of the Bat-Family. That goes beyond the fact that he’s a meta-human. When he joined Batman, some readers thought he might become another Robin. Duke even said that he didn’t want to be Robin and Bruce told him he wanted to try something different. That’s when Bruce unveiled Duke’s Signal uniform.
In Batman Secret Files: The Signal, Duke Thomas was given a new job as he became Gotham City’s protector when the sun is up. Bruce trusting someone in this way is very new but Duke has earned that confidence from Batman. On his first day he uncovered a formidable place called the White Market. Moreover, he studies and trains harder than most and is maturing faster than anyone could have expected. Imagine how good he’ll be when his story is over.

10. Cassandra Cain (Batgirl)
Cassandra Cain is the most dangerous member of the Bat-Family. If she wanted to, she could probably kill all of her teammates. Instead, she’s learned to become a different person – someone who’s nothing like her parents. That influence has made her mother, Lady Shiva, rethink how she’s been as a person.
Cassandra is no longer named Orphan. She’s the newest woman to have the Batgirl name and it’s a title she’s deserved for a while. She doesn’t talk as much as everyone else, but she doesn’t need to. Her actions speak for themselves. That means, when she does talk, people listen. Her relationship with Clayface in Detective Comics is something everyone should check out. It’s part of how she started to find her voice and herself.
