3. James Gordon

Batman couldn’t function in Gotham without the help of Jim Gordon. At first, the police commissioner was skeptical. Who wouldn’t be? The Dark Knight is a guy who dresses up like a bat and puts people in the hospital. Over time, though, Gordon began to trust Batman with protecting Gotham City and his life. Together, they’ve kept he city as safe as possible from the most deplorable villains in the world.

In Joker No. 2, he revealed to Barbara that he was aware of her double life as Oracle and Batgirl. In All-Star Batman: My Own Worst Enemy, he smiled when the police couldn’t find the Bat-Cave in Wayne Manor. Gordon knew it was there; he was just happy he didn’t have to arrest his friend. It’s not shocking that he knows their secrets. It’s impressive that he’s never let it slip, even to them.

2. Dick Grayson (Nightwing)

Dick Grayson is the original Robin. Known as the quintessential sidekick in any genre, he has long moved on from being anyone’s second banana. Nightwing is now Blüdhaven’s protector and Batman’s partner. The two of them have protected Gotham (and each other) from atrocities they couldn’t face alone.

It’s been said that you can tell someone’s worth by how much they’re missed when they’re gone. When Dick Grayson lost his memory, Bruce missed him immensely. He was the only person Bruce felt close enough to go to when Selina left him at the altar. When he came back, he was the deciding factor in helping stop the Joker War.
