Is Legends of Tomorrow ending? (Is DC’s Legends of Tomorrow canceled?)
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow season 7 has come to a close, but was the season 7 finale actually the series finale or is season 8 in the works?
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is one of the longest-running programs on The CW. The Arrowverse show has become a part of the network’s furniture over the years, and it’s been that way ever since it premiered in 2016.
An offshoot of both Arrow and The Flash (and eventually Supergirl), it featured popular secondary characters from both shows, as an array of heroes and villains joined together and traveled through time on the Waverider in the hopes of preserving the timeline, changing dark fates and becoming Legends in the process.
While many viewed it as little more than a decent spin-off, it truly shined in its second season whenever it loosened the shackles of seriousness and leaned into a more comedic approach, blending the two genres together to create a property that had so much life in it. So much life that the show is still enjoying a successful run and it is now in its seventh season. But the speculation about its future continues.
Is Legends of Tomorrow canceled?
No, Legends of Tomorrow has not been canceled. The show wrapped its seventh season on March 2 and the season 7 finale was not designed to be a series finale.
Legends is always among the earliest batch of renewals, with the network usually announcing those early renewals in January. Due to a looming sale of the network, The CW has not yet renewed Legends for season 8 but the hope is that we’ll get some updates about the future of Legends very soon.
Will there be a season 8 of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow?
It has yet to be officially confirmed as to whether there will be an eighth season of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow or not, but it is likely that the show will get renewed. While ratings have declined over the years, it remains among The CW’s most-watched shows, with viewing figures actually going up for season 7 when it was moved to its current Wednesday timeslot.
Moreover, showrunner Phil Klemmer told the fans during the show’s 2021 Comic-Con@Home panel that he hoped to see them “next year in real life, in San Diego”. This, of course, implies that the show will return for season 8.
Additionally, the cast and crew have wrapped the seventh season, with no hints that it was the final season. While the show has been running for a long time, it’s likely that, if the decision is made to end the series, it would happen with an eighth and final season. Then again, Legends has defied expectations before, so there is every possibility that it could carry on well past season 8 too.
