The Batman: Is Robert Pattinson a good Batman?
Robert Pattinson plays the Caped Crusader in 2022’s The Batman, but is he a worthy successor to the legendary role?
When Ben Affleck departed the role of Batman following Justice League, his planned solo entry The Batman did not go with him. Instead, it evolved into a standalone reboot set to relaunch DC’s most beloved superhero outside of the divisive DCEU.
After a lengthy search for a new hero, Robert Pattinson was cast in the role. Given how universally-adored the Caped Crusader is, whoever was chosen to don that cowl would find themselves under an insane amount of scrutiny, but Pattinson found himself on that infamous cycle of critics voicing their opinions based on his previous film history and suggesting that it was evidence he would “never” be a good choice for the role – the same cycle Michael Keaton and Heath Ledger found themselves on in previous Batman franchises.
Keaton’s Batman and Ledger’s Joker silenced those critics, with both etching their rightful place in movie history and changing the game for live-action portrayals of both characters. The question is: Could Robert Pattinson do the same?
The Batman has hit movie theaters, and now fans are eager to know if “Battinson” will silence those critics too.
Is Robert Pattinson a good Batman?
If you’re unsure of whether Robert Pattinson will be a good Batman, you can leave those thoughts at the door (like, right now!). Pattinson isn’t just good in the role, he’s spectacular, gifting audiences with one of the finest live-action portrayals of a comic book character ever.
As for what makes him so good, we won’t give too much away. But we will say this, he’s totally at home with the fact that he spends more time under the cowl than any other actor in a single Batman movie. He is somber, methodical and captivating in his approach, ensuring that the reserved and stoic character is also incredibly compelling at the same time. And while doing this, he gets the chance to show us a different side to Bruce Wayne; the flawed and scarred one that the playboy billionaire façade would normally cover up.
He’s also completely at home in all of the action scenes and his Batman looks nothing short of terrifying against the grim shadows and rain-soaked aesthetic of Matt Reeves’ Gotham City.
Is Robert Pattinson the best Batman?
Pattinson isn’t surprisingly good, if you’ve watched his movies over the last decade you’ll know he’s one of the finest performers of his generation. But he is among the very best Batmen you will ever see on the screen, and that smash-hit performance might just be enough to surprise even the toughest of critics.
As for whether he’s the best to don the suit, that is up to you to decide. But his performance does make one heck of a case for him!
