2022 Disney Shareholders Webcast: Every Marvel and Star Wars announcement (live blog)

The 2022 Annual Disney Shareholders Webcast took place on March 9. Find out what Marvel and Star Wars announcements were made during the presentation to shareholders. 

On March 9, The Walt Disney Company hosted its annual Disney Shareholders Webcast and with it came the promise of exciting announcements connected to the company’s biggest franchises including Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm.

During the annual presentation, the top dogs of The Walt Disney Company presented to shareholders and fans by sharing a first look at what’s to come for some of its top franchises and properties including Marvel and Star Wars.

Past years have been used to debut first look footage at upcoming movies and shows, confirm release dates for previously announced projects and announce exciting new movies and shows coming soon. This year featured some news, but not near as much as fans were anticipating.

Heading into the presentation, the big hope by fans was that we might not only learn the premiere timelines for previously confirmed projects such as She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan but also receive new information on casting and other projects in development.

The official Disney Shareholders Day presentation kicked off at 1 pm ET and began with business-focused content and legal information, which was a bit unexpected for those of us looking forward to branded announcements and possible new footage.

After about 40 minutes of topical conversations about the business side of things, Disney shifted its attention towards what’s to come in sharing some updates about its key brands including Disney, Marvel, Star Wars and more!

Disney Shareholders Webcast 2022 Marvel news

Although Disney did not choose to debut any new footage or announce any new projects, the company did confirm a few key pieces of information in announcing its upcoming slate of Disney+ Marvel series.

Following the release of Moon Knight on March 30, Disney will release Ms. Marvel followed by She-Hulk later this year. Although no release dates have been confirmed for Ms. Marvel or She-Hulk, it appears as though Ms. Marvel will arrive sometime during Summer 2022 with She-Hulk likely arriving in Fall 2022.

Disney Shareholders Webcast 2022 Star Wars news

Without a doubt, the biggest Star Wars announcement made during the Disney Shareholders call was the debut of the first trailer for the new Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi. 

The must-see trailer, which has since been released via Twitter and can be seen below, offered up our first look at the highly anticipated new series including Ewan McGregor’s return as Obi-Wan and what appeared to be the tease of a return of another iconic character, Darth Sidious aka Sheev Palpatine.
