Star Wars fans love the idea of Sebastian Stan playing a young Luke Skywalker for The Mandalorian and this amazing image highlights why.

Sebastian Stan is undoubtedly one of the biggest names in Hollywood right now. A veteran of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he plays the role of the formidable Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier in that franchise, debuting all the way back in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger before stealing the show in the 2014 sequel The Winter Soldier.

He reprised his role on the small screen back in 2021 when he starred opposite Anthony Mackie in Disney PlusThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He also voiced the character in animated series What If…?. Now, however, he is set to make his grand return as the character in the upcoming Thunderbolts movie. Announced at D23, it will see Bucky team up with (and potentially lead) various Marvel antiheroes and debuts in movie theaters in 2024.

While fans are thrilled that he’s playing Bucky Barnes again, there is also a lot of discussion among them about him appearing in another Disney Plus series. And that is none other than Star Wars spin-off The Mandalorian. And with The Mandalorian season 3 currently airing on-screens, now is a good time to revisit that conversation – especially since Luke Skywalker appeared in the previous season finale.

The tales and rumors of Stan portraying a young Luke Skywalker someday are legendary at this point, and it has inspired a ton of fan art in the process. On that note, allow us to revisit and appreciate one incredible piece today.

What Sebastian Stan could look like as Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian

This amazing piece from digital artist BossLogic was posted when season 2 of The Mandalorian was once again generating conversations about Luke Skywalker, and it has become a constant reminder of how amazing Sebastian Stan would look in the role if he were to play it in The Mandalorian season 3 or in another Star Wars project.

Of course, the reason so many fans think Stan would be perfect for the role is his uncanny resemblance to Mark Hamill (who, of course, portrayed Luke in the original Star Wars movies) and this artwork highlights the pair’s resemblance a great deal.

Is Sebastian Stan in The Mandalorian season 3?

The reason fans have been talking about Sebastian Stan potentially being in The Mandalorian season 3 in recent years is down to the fact that, through the use of incredible CGI, the show included a de-aged Mark Hamill in the previous season when Luke made an unexpected cameo (and again in The Book of Boba Fett).

However, CGI of that level would be unfeasible for any long-term projects, so fans have been wondering if Lucasfilm might make a Luke Skywalker prequel starring Stan in the titular role because of his resemblance to a young Mark Hamill (or have him show up in The Mandalorian season 3).

There’s always a chance it could happen in the future, particularly because Hamill and Stan are well aware of how much they look alike, with the The Falcon and the Winter Soldier actor commenting “never say never” when asked about the possibility of doing it. After all, anything can happen in the Star Wars universe.

And this would feel like far too much of a missed opportunity if it didn’t happen in some capacity, whether that’s a future season of The Mandalorian or another Star Wars spin-off series.

Speaking of The Mandalorian season 3, its season 3 finale will air on Disney Plus this week. But fear not Star Wars fans, a fourth season is on the way!
