Daredevil is making its way to Disney Plus, but is it suitable for family viewing?

In the last year alone, Disney Plus has become the premiere home for Marvel content. Housing almost all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies since its inception, it took that partnership with Marvel Studios one step further in 2021 when it began streaming original Marvel shows set in the MCU.

Now, however, it sets its sights on Marvel’s last attempt at streaming TV. We are, of course, talking about the revered Marvel Netflix universe. A universe that spawned shows like Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, it all started with the critically-acclaimed Daredevil, and now all of them are on the move from their original homes at Netflix to Disney Plus.

Marvel TV is almost always family-friendly, but does Daredevil follow in its footsteps? The answer is a resounding no, as all of the Marvel Netflix shows are not aimed at the younger audience that MCU properties often are.

Daredevil age rating

Daredevil is rated TV-MA as it features a lot of mature and adult content. The show also features some profanity, but the swearing doesn’t go too far outside the realm of what you’d expect from a PG-13 Marvel property. The real reason for the mature rating is the extreme violence, graphic content and threatening scenes.

With all of that in mind, Daredevil is definitely not suitable for younger audiences and should not be confused for the MCU shows streaming on Disney+. In fact, the stateside version of Disney Plus has to upgrade its parental controls now that it’s adding the Marvel Netflix shows to its library, because they are well aware of how dark and mature these shows are.
