Batman: Why you should live in Gotham City (and why you definitely should not)
By Mark Lynch
Becoming a villain
While being a hero could happen, it’s not likely. If we’re being honest, this is more likely. There are way more villains than heroes in the comic book world. Messed up incidents will happen to you living in Gotham. If you’re lucky, it’s something you can get over. Unfortunately, there are a lot of things that can turn the best people into criminals. Harvey Dent is a good example.
Harvey Dent was actually trying to clean up Gotham. After a horrific accident, he became one of Batman’s deadliest enemies. The sad part is he’s not all bad. You can see that in his constant efforts to change (read Task Force Z for more on that).
Becoming a goon
Everyone thinks that they’ll become Lex Luthor, Doctor Doom, or Joker. It’s not likely. Everyone isn’t built for the life of a leader, especially when dealing with the best heroes in the universe. It’s more probable that you’ll become a poorly dressed goon in a themed-getup.
This is the worst. No matter who you’re henching for, the percentage of death and dismemberment went up 100%. It may not even be from Batman. If you give Penguin the wrong macchiato he’ll assault you with one of his many wacky umbrellas. Joker kills people just because. And Two-Face flips coins to decide fates. It’s just not worth it.
