WandaVision was one of the MCU’s biggest success stories, but is there a future for the series?

WandaVision hooked the world throughout its run on Disney Plus. The very first of Marvel Studios’ TV shows on the streaming service, it kick-started a new era for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and started it on the most unbelievable of highs.

Starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, both of whom reprised their roles from previous MCU properties as Wanda Maximoff and Vision, the series told the story of the former’s attempt to deal with the loss of the latter after Avengers movies Infinity War and Endgame. And as that sentence just highlighted, clearly there was more to the story than the charming sitcom that the pair found themselves in.

Receiving critical acclaim, and a lot of awards and nominations, the series left fans wanting more. However, its status as a miniseries prevented that from happening. And, while there was never any official confirmation that there wouldn’t be a season 2, it seemed unlikely since the story was finished.

Now, Moon Knight director Mohamed Diab has confirmed that WandaVision was indeed a one-and-done series.

Is WandaVision season 2 happening?

Speaking with Games Radar (H/T: The Direct), Moon Knight director Mohamed Diab revealed that he would love to direct a Marvel movie after the Disney Plus series, discussing how Marvel Studios treats both their films and TV shows as major offerings. Using that example, he spoke about how WandaVision‘s characters (like Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda) will return to the MCU in other exciting ways outside of the show, adding:

"“It’s like a crazy world. Even with the successful shows, like WandaVision, they’re not doing season two. She jumped into a film, maybe she’s going to come back or not. I don’t know. And that’s exciting.”"

Diab’s words may confirm that there won’t be a second season of WandaVision, but they really highlight the success of the Marvel machine and how committed the studio is to telling these characters’ stories in the right way, evidenced by the fact that the Scarlet Witch’s story will continue in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (instead of WandaVision season 2).
