New Moon Knight scene teases a mysterious new character
By Mark Lynch
Layla El-Faouly steals the show in the newest clip from Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight on Disney Plus.
It was just last week when Marvel Studios released the first clip of Moon Knight. It was an extended scene that was already teased in the trailer and we saw more of Khonshu and why Steven Grant was terrified on the floor when the woman entered the elevator.
It also showed us that this series would be more than just an action flick. We’ll be seeing a horror aspect – something that hasn’t happened in any of the Disney Plus and Marvel Studios programs as of yet.
Now, however, Marvel has released more footage from the upcoming show. This time, Moon Knight and Khonshu aren’t the center of attention. That honor goes to Layla El-Faouly.
New Moon Knight clip teases the summoning of the suit
We don’t know who Layla El-Faouly is simply because she doesn’t exist in the comics. This has led to some speculation that she could be a Marvel Comics character in disguise. It wouldn’t be the first time a comic book character’s name has been changed to fit a project. We recently saw it in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man movies when Mary Jane Watson became Michelle Jones-Watson – a name change that didn’t affect the character at all.
With that in mind, it wouldn’t be shocking if Layla takes the place of Marlene in the MCU. Regardless of who May Calamawy is playing, Moon Knight needs someone who can call him out on his nonsense.
In Marvel Comics, Marc and Marlene have a weird relationship. She knows he’s no good for her, but she goes back to him. She thinks they’re the same kind of damaged person. They’ve been friends, partners as mercenaries, and lovers. Whenever he gets out of hand, she’s quick to literally knock some sense into him.
In this reality, Steven Grant seems like he’s a pushover. Layla could be the one who knows that behind that coward is the tough mercenary Marc Spector and Moon Knight. She also could be the only one who knows how to let them out by “summoning the suit”.
