The Flash renewed for season 9 at The CW

The Flash has been renewed for a ninth season by The CW.

Rejoice, Flash fans! The Scarlet Speedster will return to The CW for a ninth offering.

As revealed by TVLine, network announced today that it would be renewing the longest-running show currently on its programming slate, along with fellow Arrowverse series Superman and Lois and various CW shows Riverdale, Kung Fu, Walker, Nancy Drew and All American.

The Flash premiered on The CW back in 2014. The first Arrow offshoot, it quickly became the network’s most successful series ever, garnering consistently high viewing figures throughout its first few seasons.

It also gave life to many of the aspects in the Arrowverse that we see today, with Grant Gustin’s Scarlet Speedster (along with many of his Team Flash co-stars) going down in history among the greatest live-action superhero portrayals.

Is The Flash ending after season 9?

The Flash‘s season 9 renewal comes after the conversation over the show’s future resurfaced last year, with fans wondering if the show’s eighth season would be its last. We now know that this is not the case after all, but it’s still clear that the show has more seasons behind it than ahead of it.

Grant Gustin has signed a new contract to remain on for the ninth season, but he chose a one-year deal over a multi-year contract – something that resulted in speculation about the show’s future beyond season 9 even before it had been renewed.

Needless to say that the Arrowverse veteran has been one of the main reasons for this superhero TV renaissance we are living in today, and this fan is definitely excited that we get to enjoy the theatrics of Central City for at least one more season!

The Flash season 8 airs on The CW on Wednesdays nights at 8:00 p.m. ET.
