Marvel Studios developing a Nova project with Moon Knight screenwriter
Moon Knight writer Sabir Pirzada is reportedly developing a mystery Nova project for Marvel Studios.
For as long as the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been in its existence, Marvel Comics fans have been clamoring for a movie or show featuring the character of Richard Rider, a.k.a. Nova. This reached new heights when Guardians of the Galaxy came to the silver screen eight years ago.
Now, according to Deadline, we may get the chance to see the character headline his own story, as writer Sabir Pirzada, who has writing credits on Person of Interest and Roswell, New Mexico, has been tapped to develop a Nova project for Marvel Studios. This won’t be the first time he collaborates with Marvel as he has co-written three episodes of the forthcoming Moon Knight for Disney Plus.
Speaking of which, it has yet to be confirmed whether the Nova project will be a feature film or a TV series. That said, it is reportedly likely to be a limited series on the Disney Plus streaming service.
Nova is finally coming to the MCU
Last year, there was recurring speculation that a project based on the character was indeed in development as Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige alluded to the possibility of seeing the character in the future of the MCU. However, it was hard to know the time frame for when it would surface.
The character’s inevitable arrival was foreshadowed by the intergalactic police force known as the Nova Corps in Guardians of the Galaxy. The status of this force is unknown but the organization was implied to have been destroyed by Thanos prior to Avengers: Infinity War when the Mad Titan claimed the Power Stone by invading the planet Xandar.
Whether the project developed by writer Pirzada will address these events and the Nova Corps remains to be seen, but it’s definitely an exciting time for fans of the character and Marvel fans in general.
