Moon Knight is the next Marvel series on the Disney Plus horizon, but will it be rated R?

Marvel Studios has been dominating the box office for over a decade now, but last year it set its sights on television. The juggernaut company did that by bringing the revered Marvel Cinematic Universe to the small screen through the Disney Plus streaming service, and it didn’t take long before it was clear that they were destined for success all over again.

Following in the critically-acclaimed footsteps of WandaVisionThe Falcon and the Winter SoldierLokiWhat If…? and Hawkeye will be Moon Knight. Unlike the previous four live-action offerings, it won’t be based on a hero that we’re already familiar with in the MCU as it will be used as a platform to introduce us all to the compelling Marvel Comics character that is Marc Spector, and the Egyptian Moon God known as Khonsu.

Very little was known about Moon Knight in the lead up to the debut of the first trailer, but it was the first trailer itself that has shed some light on the Oscar Isaac-led show.

It’s clear that the property is going to be one of Marvel’s darker offerings. With that in mind, fans are curious about what kind of age rating it will hold.

Moon Knight age rating

Moon Knight is rated TV-14. That’s pretty normal when it comes to Marvel television shows (unless of course you’re talking about the gritty Netflix shows), but that doesn’t mean Moon Knight will be kid-friendly.

The show is set to be much darker than any of the Marvel Studios offerings thus far, with many believing that it will be boundary-pushing in terms of violence and maturity, paving the way for darker installments in the future. With that in mind, viewer discretion is advised as it likely won’t be as light-hearted as Marvel fans are used to, and that might not make it appropriate for family-viewing.

Fans were hoping that the arrival of characters like Deadpool and Daredevil in the MCU would allow for Moon Knight to be R-rated but Marvel ultimately decided to pursue the TV-14 age rating instead.
