Moon Knight is here. But who is its protagonist and what can he really do?
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has officially welcomed its newest hero into the fold.
After much excitement, and a lot of anticipation, Moon Knight has debuted in the MCU in his own self-titled Disney Plus series, and quite frankly it’s a debut that has been long overdue.
The truth is that Marc Spector, Steven Grant, Mr. Knight, Moon Knight or whatever you want to call him has remained one of Marvel Comics’ most popular characters and fans have been longing for him to make his arrival in the MCU for quite some time.
It has finally happened, and there is much excitement. But if you aren’t all that familiar with the character, or you’d just like to brush up on your Moon Knight knowledge before he debuts in the series, then stick around and find out what he can really do.
Moon Knight powers explained
Marc Spector suffers from dissociative identity disorder and thus has multiple personalities. When he’s not the mercenary that he is, he’s the mild-mannered and somewhat oblivious Steven Grant in the Disney Plus series. However, he also has the ability to “summon” a mystical suit, imbuing him with the power of an Egyptian moon god Khonshu.
While Khonshu can’t cross into the humanly plane of existence, Marc is his avatar, acting out his will as the vigilante known as Moon Knight. While Marc can handle himself in a brawl given his former status as a mercenary, the suit enhances his strength and can also allow him to heal himself.
In the comics, the suit has also given him the ability to have prophetic dreams, visions and the ability to drain peoples’ life force with a touch.
So, yes, Moon Knight is a crime-fighter that likes to get physical, but he’s also incredibly durable and formidable because of his supernatural connection to Khonshu.
Can Moon Knight fly?
As the series showcases, Moon Knight does appear to fly. The truth, however, is that he doesn’t actually possess the power of flight.
Instead, thanks to his supernatural cape, he does have the ability to glide or long distances – something we saw take place in the Moon Knight season finale, as Khonshu propelled him into the sky and allowed him to glide.
All episodes of Moon Knight are now available on Disney Plus.
