Moon Knight’s second episode left fans in need of some answers. Thankfully, we may have some.

Moon Knight wasted little time making an impression on viewers. The Marvel Studios series premiered on Disney Plus last week and it quickly had fans all around the world voicing their opinions about how good it was.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe offshoot sees Oscar Isaac take on the role of Steven Grant, a man that doesn’t quite realize he has multiple personalities – and that one of those personalities is a mercenary who answers to an ancient Egyptian moon god.

After the series premiere revealed Moon Knight’s look in the closing moments, the second installment told the next chapter of that story as Steven attempted to process the realization that Marc Spector and Moon Knight were part of him.

Moon Knight season 1, episode 2 recap

The main focus of episode 2 is aftermath, as Steven Grant tries to come to terms with the events of the first episode. Though initially convinced that it was all just a dream, he soon realizes that everything that went down in the museum the night before did happen. The only issue is that there is no video footage of the Egyptian Jackal, Arthur Harrow, Marc Spector, or Moon Knight.

He gets the answers he needs as the episode goes on, with Layla El-Faouly’s arrival and both Marc Spector and Arthur Harrow’s explanations filling in plenty of the gaps. And this ultimately leads to a showdown with another Jackal.

During the showdown, Steven summons the suit only to realize that it looks significantly different to the one we saw before (hello, Mr. Knight!). However, even though it does allow him to battle the Jackal, he is unable to stop it. Thus, he decides to give control of his body over to Mark, allowing Moon Knight to take form and defeat the Jackal.

This is a decision that Steven soon regrets as Marc refuses to give him the body back until he completes the “final” mission for Khonsu. And thus, Steven must exist within Marc’s head, appearing only in reflective surfaces and demanding that he be released. But that is unlikely to happen anytime soon as Marc decides to head to Egypt to track down Ammit’s tomb before Harrow can get there with the Scarab.

What Marc Spector wants

It’s plain and simple: Marc Spector wants to complete that final mission for Khonsu in the hopes that the Egyptian moon god will free him from service and allow him to return to his life Layla. Thus, he’s willing to keep Steven locked out of his own body until he completes that mission.

With Marc in control, you can bet the show will take a more intense and action-packed route going forward. After all, Moon Knight is in control, so expect some fight scenes. But the fighting won’t just be physical for Marc, for not only does he have to contend with the fact that Steven Grant is still in his head and desperately wants control again, but he also has to deal with the fact that Khonsu may want Layla to take over as his avatar if Marc retires, preventing him from having that life with Layla he has always wanted.

For now, though, it’s off to Egypt to stop Harrow from resurrecting Ammit.
