Superhero TV has grown exponentially in the last 15 years, but what have been the very best shows in the genre?

In the last 15 years the entertainment industry has evolved in some really unique ways. We have seen certain genres of film and television rise up through the ranks and others lose the prominence they once held. Audiences craved many different things and over time, the landscape changed to reflect much of those desires.

One area in which we have seen dramatic change in the last decade and a half is the amount of comic book-inspired programming we have on our TV screens. Superheroes have always been a recurring presence on the big screen (and that certainly grew with the arrival of the MCU 14 years ago), but it had been some time since there were plenty of costumed heroes on TV.

Smallville certainly led the charge for that two decades ago, but in the time that its run came to an end, we have seen a multitude of superhero shows rise.

The biggest shift in terms of superhero television over the last 15 years definitely comes from the Arrowverse. The CW’s shared universe of superheroes managed to successfully bring superheroes back to TV and built what is probably the most intricate shared universe on television through shows such as Arrow and The Flash.

Now, with the introduction of streaming TV, we have even seen Marvel Studios bring their revered MCU to the small screen through Disney Plus. And they are not the only ones, as other services like Amazon Prime Video and Netflix have now dabbled in the superhero TV game too.
