Who is Gaspard Ulliel? (And why is Moon Knight episode 3 dedicated to him?)
By Cody Schultz
Moon Knight episode 3 was followed by a tribute to Gaspard Ulliel, but what exactly is his connection to Moon Knight? Here is everything you need to know!
The third episode of Moon Knight has arrived and if you’ve made it to this particular post, chances are you’ve just finished the latest episode of Marvel’s newest original series, watched the credits in hopes of seeing if there would be a post-credit scene and instead were greeted with a tribute to cap the episode off.
Following the credits, a special tribute appears on the screen dedicating the episode to Gaspard Ulliel who made his Moon Knight debut in the episode.
In the episode, Ulliel makes his debut as Anton Mogart — also known in the comics as Midnight Man — an extravagant collector who comes into the picture when it’s discovered he happens to be in possession of a sarcophagus containing an important artifact that could lead Marc and Steven to Ammit’s tomb.
While he plays an important role in the episode, the dedication at the end of the episode has understandably created some confusion among viewers.
What happened to Gaspard Ulliel?
The dedication at the end of Moon Knight episode 3 was meant to celebrate the life of Gaspard Ulliel, who sadly passed away on Jan. 19, 2022, just months before Moon Knight‘s debut on Disney Plus.
Ulliel died following a tragic ski accident in the French Alps. According to Variety, Ulliel collided with another skier and suffered serious brain trauma. He was transported to a hospital in Grenoble via helicopter but succumbed to his injuries. He was 37.
Moon Knight marks one of Ulliel’s final on-screen appearances with the tribute designed to celebrate his legacy and the role he played in the MCU series. It remains to be seen whether he will appear in any future episodes at this time.
Moon Knight is streaming now on Disney Plus with new episodes arriving every Wednesday!
