Kraven the Hunter, as part of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, has started rolling cameras.

Production on Kraven The Hunter has commenced. The once-rumored film, the next installment of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, finally began making strides towards that milestone in May of last year when it was announced that Aaron-Taylor Johnson had been cast in the title role.

Earlier that month it had been confirmed that All Is Lost and Triple Frontier’s J.C. Chandor would bring the movie to life in the director’s seat. Meanwhile, Richard Wenk, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway have written the film’s script.

Following that, things began moving quite quickly, with Murphy’s Multiverse reporting earlier this year that filming would commence very soon. Production kicked off at the end of March, and given its January 13, 2023 release, that makes sense, as Murphy’s Multiverse states:

"“Given the film’s January 2023 release date, it’s a very sensible timeline for principal photography, leaving plenty of time for any additional photography, which is always factored into these projects.”"

This Spider-Man spin-off is most likely standalone and may not include any sign of the Wall-Crawler. However, this could potentially draw inspiration from the cult classic storyline from the comics, Kraven’s Last Hunt, which incorporated Spidey to a degree.

As there aren’t many plot details that have been released about the SSU film centered on the big-game hunter, much of what we can expect remains a mystery, particularly because very few castings came with the reveal of who those stars were actually playing. That said, fans are intrigued by it.

Kraven The Hunter stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, while Christopher Abbott will play the main villain. Alessandro Nivola will also play a villain, while Russell Crowe, Fred Hechinger, Ariana DeBose, and Levi Miller will all play unknown roles
