The Flash could be ending sooner than you think (but will it make season 10?)
The Flash has been a staple of The CW for almost a decade but its upcoming ninth season could be its last.
The end could be nigh for The Flash. The veteran CW series clearly has more days behind it than it does ahead of it but recent reports suggest that the network is considering ending the show next season.
The Flash was just recently renewed for a ninth season by The CW. With the network in a state of flux at the moment given its ongoing sale, there are still concerns about which shows would return in the fall for new seasons. The long-running Arrowverse series, however, was never at risk of cancellation simply because it is the network’s all-time biggest hit.
That said, that might have been the final renewal that The Flash receives. According to The Hollywood Reporter, there are talks that the show could come to an end with an abbreviated final season.
Is The Flash ending with season 9?
It’s very possible that The Flash could bow out with a shorter ninth season. The truth is that fans have been expecting the network to announce the show’s conclusion for some time. After all, it’s been on the air for a long time now and the longer it goes on, the more original cast members seem to be leaving. Jesse L. Martin’s recent move from series regular to recurring is more evidence of that.
On the other hand, that 10-season mark is so close and if The Flash were to hit it, it would become the joint-longest running superhero series of all time, tying the record Smallville set a decade ago. And it’s not like the ratings are an issue. Granted, they have declined a great deal in recent years but it’s still among the three or four most-watched shows on The CW on a weekly basis and it remains incredibly popular worldwide.
With all of that in mind, it’s definitely best to keep an open mind in regards to when The Flash will end. Season 9 is a logical conclusion since much of the cast seem ready to leave, but on the other hand, two more shortened seasons to allow the show its rightful chance to reach that history-making mark isn’t off-the-table just yet.
