Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is adapting a comic series by renowned comic book writer Christopher Priest with the help of G-Unit and Co. Here’s what you need to know about Xerø.

As revealed by Deadline, Curtis Jackson III, better known by his stage persona as 50 Cent, has optioned the comic Xerø, with the hopes of turning it into a live-action film through his production company G Unit Film & Television alongside Color Farm Media.

But just what is Xerø about? Here’s what you need to know about the film and the source material it’s based on.

Who is Xerø and why the interest?

Xerø is based on Christopher Priest and Chris Cross’ line of comics. It is centered on an African-American government assassin known as Coltrane “Trane” Walker. The character was also a professional basketball player. To preserve his secret identity, he disguised himself as a blond and blue-eyed Caucasian male covert operative.

Represented through a technological experimental procedure, Walker is granted intangibility but this has the side-effect of leaving Xerø with a feeling of emotional emptiness. The character meets a sad end when Xerø perishes following a second experimental test of the same procedure.

Who is bringing Xerø to the screen?

Jackson founded G-Unit Film & Television in 2005. He is known for executive producing, co-starring, and directing the hit series Power in collaboration with Courtney A. Kemp who serves as showrunner. The show has spawned numerous spin-offs which expanded the universe.

His production company produced Starz’s Black Mafia Family and For Life for ABC. No doubt Jackson has a track record for his shows receiving high ratings. Jackson had this to say about the collaboration with Priest – the first Black comic book writer and editor to ever work for Marvel and DC – and the film adaptation of Xerø:

"“There’s no one better than Christopher Priest to bring G-Unit Film & Television into the world of comic book superheroes. Watch as we build Xerø into a franchise alongside Christopher and Color Farm Media. I can’t wait for the world to meet Trane Walker in an all-new way.”"

Erika Alexander and Ben Arnon of Color Farm will produce with Jackson, and the CEO of production and publishing company Illuminous, Joseph Illidge, will also produce.  The rights to Xerø reverted back to Priest from DC Comics in 2008 so Warner Bros. will not have any involvement in the movie.
