By Cody Schultz
In a new interview, Gal Gadot shared a major Wonder Woman 3 update in sharing a key piece of information about the current status of the project.
While the future of the DC Extended Universe is uncertain for most members of the Justice League, there is at least one hero whose future is still looking bright.
As questions continue to arise regarding what’s to come for the likes of Superman, The Flash, Batman, and others around the DCEU, Wonder Woman herself Gal Gadot has shared an exciting update on the highly anticipated next chapter in the character’s story.
During a new interview promoting her mac and cheese company GOODLES, Gadot revealed to Variety that a script is currently in the works and things are coming together nicely!
"“We’re talking! We’re actually in the mix of working on the script and getting the third one made, so it’s all wheels are working and turning and I’m super, super excited for the fans to come and watch Wonder Woman 3 once it’s made.”"
Is Wonder Woman 3 happening?
Wonder Woman 3 is indeed happening! Although the success of the franchise’s sequel looked much different than 2017’s Wonder Woman due to Wonder Woman: 1984‘s release at the height of the pandemic — with the film dropping on HBO Max instead of in theaters — the film was well-received by audiences and a third film was announced shortly after by Warner Bros.
As Gadot revealed, a script is currently being worked on which is a crucial first step toward the film becoming a reality. Once a script is finished, filming will be able to begin which will help streamline the rest of the process.
Wonder Woman 3 release date rumors
Considering production has not yet begun on the film, it’s looking highly unlikely we’d see Wonder Woman 3 arrive anytime in 2022 or 2023. Instead, it’s beginning to look like the earliest we could see Diana Prince return for a third solo film would be in 2024.
Filming on Wonder Woman: 1984 began in 2018 with reshoots in 2019 that ultimately paved the way for the film to release on Christmas Day 2020. Should it take a similar amount of time for filming the third film in the franchise 2024 seems like the soonest the film could be ready.
If production does not begin until 2023, it’s possible the third film might not arrive until sometime in 2025. However, it’s also possible Warner Bros. could look to streamline the film’s release by trying to get it out as soon as possible given the success they’ve found with the franchise.
