After being shot by Harrow, Marc passes out and comes to in a psychiatric hospital surrounded by familiar faces and familiar-looking items connected with events that share connections to various moments from his life.

In this dreamscape, Harrow appears as a doctor who claims that Marc is struggling with being able to differentiate between what’s real and what’s in his head due to his obsession with a movie about a lunar god, a doctor named Steven Grant and a villain who shares many qualities with Harrow.

Despite Harrow’s attempt to make Marc believe he’s suffering from a mental break, Marc remembers Harrow shooting him and quickly makes a break for it. Marc break outs of Harrow’s office and is able to shake the wardens by ducking into a room.

It’s in that room that Marc comes across a sarcophagus and hears a voice pleading for help. Upon opening the sarcophagus, Marc discovers Steven and the pair team up to make a break for it.

Just as they reach the end of a hallway, a mysterious figure emerges behind the door. When the doors swing open, Marc and Steven are shocked to come face to face with a large hippo-like creature donning an Egyptian headdress and chest piece. The being offers the pair a friendly wave as she says hello, seeming to suggest she’ll be an ally but the episode ends without any context as to who exactly she is.

Who is the hippo at the end of Moon Knight?

So who exactly is the hippo character that appears at the conclusion of Moon Knight episode 4? According to the credits of the episode, the hippo-like being who appears at the end of the episode is a character by the name of Taweret.

The episode marks Taweret’s official debut in the series, with the character set to play a role in the fifth and sixth episodes of the season as well. While we’ve only just met the character, she appears to be a friend and ally to Steven and Marc as evident by the friendly way in which she greeted the pair as the episode ended.

How exactly she’ll lend assistance to them and how she came to assist them remains unclear, but we should learn more about her connection to the pair in episode 5.

Who is Taweret?

Unlike other characters introduced in the series, Taweret has not appeared in the pages of Marvel Comics. However, the character is one with strong ties to Egyptian mythology.

According to lore, Taweret is an Egyptian goddess who is typically associated with fertility,  childbirth and rejuvenation. Like in Moon Knight, Taweret is traditionally depicted as a bipedal hippopotamus who is often described as a benevolent being.

She also happens to often be connected to Hathor, who has proven to be a friend and ally to Marc, Steven and Khonshu in the series.

Who voices Taweret in Moon Knight?

The character of Taweret is voiced by English actress Antonia Salib. If her name does not ring a bell, it is likely because Moon Knight happens to be Salib’s first-ever credited acting role!

That’s right, the character of Taweret is Salib’s acting debut and what a way to break into the industry than with a role in a Marvel Studios drama! It doesn’t appear Salib has any additional projects lined up at the moment, but we have a feeling offers will come soon after the world gets to see her shine in the upcoming episodes of Moon Knight!

Moon Knight is streaming now on Disney Plus with new episodes arriving every Wednesday!
