By Cody Schultz
Moon Knight episode 4 introduces viewers to a movie titled Tomb Buster, but is the film a real movie or nothing but a piece of fiction created for the show?
Moon Knight episode 4 has finally arrived and we have to confess, we weren’t ready for the shocking conclusion to the episode!
Warning: Major Moon Knight spoilers ahead.
In the episode, Marc and Steven continue their quest to stop Harrow before he can enact his plan to free Ammit. With help from Layla, they’re able to track down her tomb and for a minute it looks like they might manage to get the win when Steven finds the ushabti holding Ammit.
Unfortunately, Harrow arrives shortly after with his army of men and confronts Marc. While Marc puts up quite a fight, Harrow shoots him sending him falling into a pool of water that quickly fades into darkness the further Marc drifts away.
The episode then cuts to an Indiana Jones-like film starring a character named Dr. Steven Grant, which is revealed to be playing on a television in a psychiatric hospital — one which Marc seems to find himself a patient of Harrow.
During a confrontation with Harrow, Harrow tries to explain that Marc had a mental break and that his obsession with the fictional film entitled Tomb Buster led him to struggle to differentiate between what is real and fiction. As he explains, the film makes a meal out of a plot about a lunar god with an eccentric villain and an explorer of sorts at its helm.
The moment was one of many to unpack from the shocking ending of the episode which has left viewers questioning what is real and what is not. However, there’s another question we can’t help but ask and that’s whether the film Tomb Buster is actually a movie or a work of fiction made up for the film.
Is Tomb Buster a real movie?
If you’re hoping to be able to track down a copy of Tomb Buster, I’m afraid I have some bad news for you. Tomb Buster is not a real movie and therefore cannot be found on Amazon or anywhere videos can be purchased.
Instead, the film seems to have been created specifically for Moon Knight and is a spoof of Indiana Jones with a plot inspired by the events of the series. It’s a genius plot move as it certainly seemed like it could be a real movie and we’re sure its prominence in the episode-ending mystery is sure to raise some questions among fans.
Given Indiana Jones is a Disney property, Tomb Buster is a fun nod to the iconic film with the fictional film’s theme even sharing a likeness to the iconic Indiana Jones theme song.
