Guardians of the Galaxy: James Gunn teases SPOILER’s return (and no, it’s not Gamora)

James Gunn has subtly teased the return of a beloved Marvel character in The Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special, but it’s unfortunately not Gamora.

It’s never been a more exciting time to be a Marvel fan. Not only is Marvel Studios churning out incredible new films in theaters as it’s been doing for over a decade, but the studio has since expanded into the vast world of television where it is continuing to change the game.

Through its Disney+ original series, Marvel Studios has been able to tell stories it likely could have never told in a movie and explore facets of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that might have otherwise never been explored.

It’s also given them the freedom to try new genres of programming and even some self-contained stories, as is expected to be the case in its upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special.

In the new holiday special coming to Disney+ this holiday season, Star-Lord, Drax, Rocket, Mantis, and Groot engage in some spirited shenanigans and it seems they won’t be the only Guadians of the Galaxy characters returning to get into the holiday shenanigans!

James Gunn spoils Cosmo’s return in Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special

With production on Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special coming to a close, the studio gifted the cast and crew with a fun holiday-inspired wrap gift to commemorate the event: a collection of Guardians Of The Galaxy holiday ornaments featuring the likeness of the special’s many characters, as revealed by director James Gunn.

In the new images shared by Gunn, we get a clear look at the wrap gift ornaments which feature the likeness of all of our favorite Guardians. They also happen to spoil the return of a beloved Marvel character and, before you ask, no it’s not Gamora!

Among the characters featured on the holiday special inspired ornaments is beloved Marvel canine Cosmo, who hasn’t been seen in a live-action MCU project in five years!

In the photo, Cosmo is featured front and center on one of the holiday ornaments rocking a pair of reindeer ears, a red nose and a holiday bell around his neck. While there is no context explaining how exactly he’ll become involved in the holiday special, it’s just exciting to know Cosmo will be returning soon!

Cosmo first made his MCU debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 before making a cameo in a post-credits scene in the film’s sequel. While he made an appearance in Marvel’s What If…?, we’ve not seen Cosmo in a live-action project since 2017 so it should be interesting to see him back in the live-action universe.
