Moon Knight episode 5: 5 things we’ve learned from a journey through the past
By Mark Lynch
4. Marc never forgets the lives he took
Marc Spector is a killer. That much is certain. For a few episodes, we didn’t know if he was a remorseless murderer or has a code. Episode 5 of Moon Knight answers that question in a deep way. Not only does Marc have a code, he never forgets the people he’s killed.
One of the rooms in the Asylum had all of the people Marc had killed over the years. Steven was abhorred by what he saw. However, there was more to it. Steven learns that these people were the worst of the worst. Also, the fact that Marc hasn’t forgotten any of them means they weigh heavy on his soul.
3. Where the trauma started
So far, all of the Disney Plus Marvel shows have had deep episodes that explain the heroes’ personalities. This episode of Moon Knight was no different. Although, this writer was not expecting this kind of episode. During an incredibly emotional ride, viewers saw exactly how and why Steven Grant was created.
After Marc’s brother died, his mother became an abusive alcoholic. She blamed him for his death and claimed that Marc was jealous of him. After taking so much abuse, Steven Grant was born. He was the part of Marc that didn’t have to deal with the awful memories of abuse from someone who’s supposed to love him.
Viewers also learned when their lives started blending together. After Marc couldn’t emotionally handle his mother’s death, he couldn’t control the switch. It was at that moment that Marc became Steven and he couldn’t control the changes.
