Where have the X-Men and the Fantastic Four been in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Here are some ideas that make the most sense.

There has been a lot of talk about where the X-Men and the Fantastic Four have been in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It makes no sense that we haven’t seen them.

Fans have witnessed over a dozen world and universe-changing events since Iron Man in 2008. Since both superhero teams are among the best, it only makes sense that they’d be involved. Yet, they were nowhere to be found.

Where could they have been while the world and universe almost burned without them?

X-Men were erased from memories

In Matthew Rosenberg’s Uncanny X-Men, Emma Frost erased the idea of mutants from the minds of the world. It was a way to keep them safe in one of their most dangerous times. Eventually, the X-Men decided to release the minds of humanity.

The trailers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness have shown Charles Xavier’s chair from the ’90s cartoon and we’ve heard Sir. Patrick Stewart’s voice. So we know that the idea of the X-Men is a thing. We’ve also heard Baron Mordo acknowledge the existence of the Illuminati. Maybe they (the Illuminati) came together and decided that it’s better for the world to forget about mutants. Something so dangerous could have happened that it was better if the world forgot.

The Fantastic Four were around

Captain Marvel was around during all of the major events that took place during and after the first Iron Man. She came back to Earth in the 1990s. After saving the day, she bounced back and forth from Earth to space for years. This means that Captain Marvel was still a hero. She just had other things to worry about. She wasn’t just a hero on Earth. Carola Danvers is intergalactic This is why Nick Fury gave her a beeper. Just in case something major happened.

This makes the most sense for the Fantastic Four. Marvel’s First Family aren’t just superheroes. They’re explorers. They hop to different dimensions, planets, and alternate realities. They could have been on another adventure whenever something happened on Earth. Or, they were on Earth dealing with another event that could have ended the world. It’s not like Thor or Doctor Strange showed up for everything.

Mutants on Krakoa

The mutants are having the time of their lives on Krakoa. Humanity didn’t want them around, so they left. Not before becoming a nation recognized by the U.N., creating laws, and creating things they can export (check out House of X and Powers of X for more on this). This happened in Marvel Comics in 2019. Maybe it’s happening in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Whenever a comic book writer has an idea, it has to go through the proper channels to be approved. Once Jonathan Hickman came up with the idea for Krakoa, Marvel Studios may have loved the idea enough to use it in the MCU.

Readers have seen the X-Men not get involved in major events in the comics. The same, “Not my problem mentality” could be the same in the MCU could make moviegoers unfamiliar with the comics pick up some issues.

X-Men and Fantastic Four don’t exist in this reality

Occam’s razor tells us that the simplest explanation is usually the best. In this case, maybe the Fantastic Four and the X-Men don’t exist in the MCU. It’s the easiest way to explain not seeing them. That leads us back to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Whatever happens in that movie could lead to mutants and Marvel’s First Family joining the MCU.

It would be easy for the Fantastic Four to be accepted by the world. There are only four of them and they’re all wholesome and good-looking heroes. Now, imagine millions of mutants just appearing out of nowhere. This could cause issues with the world leaders. Leading them to say ignorant things about people who just want to live their lives. They won’t know what to do with them. The world could barely handle the blip and those people existed.

Whatever happens, when the X-Men and Fantastic Four are announced in the MCU, Bam Smack Pow will have answers.
