Doctor Strange 2 box office: How much money has the movie made?
Doctor Strange 2 is hitting theaters this weekend. How much has it made at the box office so far and how successful is it expected to be?
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has had the world talking for weeks now, but the excitement for the Marvel Studios film has reached an all-time high this week as it has finally debuted in movie theaters across the world.
A sequel to 2016’s Doctor Strange, it sees Benedict Cumberbatch reprise his role as the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s former Sorcerer Supreme as the hero attempts to save the multiverse from a powerful threat that looms over every world within it.
Joining him are Elizabeth Olsen (who returns to the MCU as Wanda Maximoff a.k.a. the Scarlet Witch), Benedict Wong (who returns to the franchise as Wong), Rachel McAdams (who reprises her Doctor Strange role as Christine Palmer) and Xochitl Gomez (who debuts as America Chavez).
With mostly positive reviews and a huge amount of fan intrigue, the Sam Raimi film is poised for a successful opening weekend, but how well is it performing at the moment?
Doctor Strange 2 box office performance (so far)
As of Friday, May 6, Doctor Strange 2 has grossed $36 million domestically. That all comes from Thursday night previews, making it one of the most successful pandemic performers in the previews department and the eighth biggest preview night ever. Moreover, it’s also enjoying a highly successful opening day on Friday, with experts predicting that it could make between $180 – $200 million in its opening weekend.
It’s also playing well in international markets, with the film already racking up a huge $86 million over its two-day earlier release period overseas.
As of right now, Doctor Strange 2 has made $121.7 million overall, but expect that to rise significantly in the days ahead as the Marvel movie brings the multiverse to movie theaters around the world.
