The CW’s newest superhero series has concluded its first season, but is Naomi season 2 going to happen?
Naomi arrived on The CW earlier this year, making itself at home on a network renowned for its superhero franchises, but the DC Comics series quickly set itself apart because it was so much more than just a superhero series.
Following the adventures of Naomi McDuffie (Kaci Walfall), the first season of the Ava DuVernay-produced series saw the young woman figure out who she was after learning that she had abilities that weren’t of this Earth. From there, she soon realized that not everyone in her hometown of Port Oswego was who they seemed, and that there were more secrets about her history yet to be discovered.
The show’s first season comes to an end with a special two-hour season finale on Tuesday, May 10, at the earlier start time of 8:00 p.m. ET., but will Naomi return to The CW for a second season? Here’s what we know so far.
Is Naomi season 2 happening?
Naomi season 2 has not yet been greenlit by The CW. While the series has received positive reviews from fans and critics, the network hasn’t been as quick to hand out early renewals this year because of the fact that it’s reportedly being sold. Thus, while seven shows did receive early renewals, Naomi was not among them.
On the other hand, veteran Arrowverse shows DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman were shockingly canceled recently, meaning that other DC shows on the network might survive.
While Naomi‘s viewing figures have declined since its highly-watched premiere episode, they have remained steady throughout its back half. Thus, there is still a good chance that the show will be renewed for a second season, especially as it its far from the least-watched show on The CW.
