The Umbrella Academy season 3 is not coming to Netflix in May 2022

The show is one of Netflix’s most beloved shows but The Umbrella Academy season 3 won’t be gracing the streaming service with its presence this month.

The Umbrella Academy has quickly become one of Netflix’s most popular TV shows. That might not seem all that surprising considering that it’s based on a beloved comic book series, but the show was part of a small wave of non Marvel and DC-related comic properties to achieve a mainstream breakthrough.

With its incredible cast, featuring the likes of Elliot Page, Aidan Gallagher, Robert Sheehan, Tom Hopper, Emmy Raver-Lampman, David Castañeda, Justin H. Min, Cameron Britton, Mary J. Blige, Kate Walsh and Colm Feore, the show follows an adopted family of super-powered individuals who reunite for their father’s funeral, with the mystery surrounding his death posing them with the chance to get answers and overcome the demons of their past.

A very well-received addition to Netflix’s line-up from its beginning in 2019, it was quickly renewed for a second season. That second season also found itself on the right end of some critical acclaim, leading to a season 3 renewal – which came in November 2020. Other than the fact that it started and finished production this year, there hasn’t been much in the way of updates for The Umbrella Academy season 3 since then.

Unfortunately, fans will have to wait a little longer, it seems. Netflix released its line-up for May 2022 a short while ago and The Umbrella Academy season 3 is not listed. So when will it be back?

The Umbrella Academy season 3 release date

The Umbrella Academy will air on Netflix on June 22, 2022. 

Netflix unveiled a new teaser trailer on the show’s official page on the streaming service back in October, confirming that a 2022 release was on the cards and that it would take place in the Hotel Oblivion setting.

The exact release date remained a mystery for quite some time. Fans were hoping that Netflix would hint at or confirm the release date during the TUDUM event but that ultimately didn’t happen. The running theory was that the third season would be released sometime in Spring, with March being a likely possibility as it would have been around six months from the end of production (which is when fans have come to expect new seasons of Netflix shows). However, Netflix opted for an early summer release instead.
