It’s the show that has taken the world by storm in recent days. We are, of course, talking about Heartstopper.

Based on the Alice Oseman comic series of the same name, Heartstopper tells the story of Nick and Charlie, two classmates who strike up an unlikely friendship that quickly begins to blossom into something more.

The Netflix show premiered to universal acclaim, with fans and critics praising its authentic portrayals of young love, self-discovery and friendship, as well as its endearingly positive impact in terms of representation for LGBTQ+ teenagers.

The eight-part series certainly made a positive impression on viewers, but what does the future hold for Heartstopper? Will it be back?

Is Heartstopper season 2 happening?

Great news, Heartstopper fans! Netflix has renewed the show for not one but two more seasons! The streamer made the announcement on Friday, May 5 – exactly four weeks since its premiere on the service.

While the show certainly functions as an eight-part miniseries exploring the lives of the teenagers at the heart of the story, there was always scope for a second season, particularly because there are more installments in Alice Oseman’s graphic novel series.

Moreover, Oseman and Patrick Walters recently spoke to Digital Spy and teased some of the stories they would love to explore in a potential second season.

Heartstopper season 2 release date predictions

Taking everything into account, the earliest we could probably expect Heartstopper season 2 would be mid-late 2023.

Bear in mind that the first season was filmed between April and June 2021, with a lengthy wait before its eventual release in April 2022. Thus, we should probably expect a similar wait for season 2.
