Stargirl season 3 is not coming to The CW in summer 2022
DC’s Stargirl season 3 will hit screens soon enough, but it won’t be continuing its position as a successful summer show on The CW this year.
DC’s Stargirl quickly made an impression on The CW when it debuted in May 2020 and drew over 1 million viewers. Impressive figures for the network, no doubt, but what made it even more impressive was the fact that it drew these numbers over 24 hours after it had already been made available on the DC Universe streaming service.
The show’s success on the TV home of the Arrowverse made it an obvious choice to move to The CW full-time whenever it was revealed that the DCU streamer would be evolving into a comics-only platform. And its second season, exclusive to the network, returned the next year, continuing its streak of success as another strong summer show for The CW.
Unfortunately, the third season won’t be following that trend, as The CW recently released its 2022 – 2023 fall schedule, confirming that Stargirl season 3 won’t air in the summer. The good news is that it has confirmed when we can expect it at least.
Stargirl season 3 release date predictions
Stargirl season 3 is set to air on The CW in the fall of 2022. While the network has yet to confirm which month it will kick off, the most likely option is October, as that’s when The CW’s fall shows used to premiere whenever it had a more traditional airing rota (which it appears that they want to get back to this year).
There has been a lot of speculation about when the DC show would return given that the third season, subtitled “Frenemies”, wrapped filming in March. A summer release seemed likely but due to the shift at The CW with its potential sale (which seemingly led to the cancellation of nine major shows), it has been held until the fall, serving as the only superhero show of the schedule.
Rest assured, Courtney Whitmore and the Justice Society of America will still return this year!
