Stranger Things season 4 features a beautiful scene where Max addresses the feelings she’s been holding in since Billy’s death, but exactly what did Max say to Billy?
Stranger Things season 4 is streaming now on Netflix and the season has proven to have been worth the wait.
As we begin, all of our favorite characters are trying to readjust to life after the events of season 3. While it’s been quiet for several months, a new threat quickly emerges in the form of Vecna: a Freddy Krueger-like villain who seems to prey on the guilt of his victims.
Warning: This article contains major spoilers from Stranger Things season 4. If you haven’t seen it yet and don’t want the season spoiled for you, don’t read any further.
While Vecna’s first victims were characters we hadn’t officially gotten to know and love, our hearts began pounding when we realized Max was seeing similar visions and hearing the chiming of the grandfather clock heard by the others before their deaths.
Things don’t look great for Max, but she’s lucky to have one thing Vecna’s other victims did not: knowledge of the supernatural world and an incredible group of friends ready to stop at nothing to protect her.
What does Max say to Billy in Stranger Things season 4?
Out of fear that she could be Vecna’s next victim, Max decides to take some time to prepare letters to all of those closest to her in the event that something happens to her — not wanting to leave anything left unsaid.
In addition to leaving letters behind to her family and friends, Max took time to finally write out the feeling she’s been holding in after Billy’s death. She then had the chance to read the letter out to Billy during a visit to his grave. Here is what the letter said:
"Dear Billy,I don’t know if you can even hear this. Two years ago, I would have said ‘That’s ridiculous, impossible. But that was before I found out about alternation dimensions and monsters, so… I’m just going to stop assuming that I know anything. So much has happened since you left. Your dad was a total mess. He and my mom started getting into fights. Bad fights. I don’t think he could stand being here without you. So he left. And he didn’t leave Mom much. She’s taken an extra job, and we moved to that lovely trailer park off Kerley. Basically, ever since you left, everything’s been a total disaster. And the worst part is, I can’t tell anyone why you’re gone. I can’t tell them that you saved El’s life. That you saved my life. I play that moment back in my head all the time. And sometimes I imagine myself running to you, pulling you away. I imagine that if I had, that you would still be here. And everything would be right again.I imagine that we could’ve become friends. Good friends, like a real brother and sister. And I know that’s stupid. You hated me. I hated you. But I thought that maybe we could try again. But that’s not what happened.I just stood there and I watched. For a while, I tried to be happy. Normal. But I think that maybe a part of me died that day too. And I haven’t told anyone this. I just can’t. But I had to tell you. Before it’s too late. If you can even hear this. I really hope that you can.I’m sorry. I’m so, so sorry, Billy.Love, your shitty little sister,Max"
Okay, we definitely could use a tissue because that scene was one of the most emotionally charged scenes from the entirety of part 1! Sadie Sink delivered a truly beautiful and emotional performance in the heart-wrenching scene, which saw Max breaking down her walls and finally saying to Billy what she had been holding in since his death.
