She-Hulk was originally going to be bigger in the Disney Plus series
According to a VFX artist on She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, her CGI was meant to be a lot bigger than what has been seen from the trailers.
The official trailer for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law premiered on May 17 as part of Disney’s Upfront presentation. It quickly generated a lot of buzz which isn’t surprising because this is Marvel we’re talking about here, and it’s the debut trailer for the long-awaited Disney Plus series, but a lot of the conversation also centered on the CGI.
However, as per a Twitter post that has since been deleted (H/T: GamesRadar+) the CGI design of She-Hulk was reportedly meant to be “bigger”. The statement came from VFX artist Sean Ruecroft whose credits include Moon Knight, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Avengers: Infinity War. This is what he had to say:
"“I was at a company that did VFX for this. Apparently, she was bigger early on, but the notes kept saying to ‘make her smaller.’ We always roll our eyes (like we did on Sonic) but at the end of the day artists gotta follow orders.”"
There has been a lot of discussion in regards to whether She-Hulk was the right size in the MCU or if Marvel Studios should have been committed to crafting a more comic-accurate appearance for the character.
What is the reception to She-Hulk’s design and the trailer like?
While reception of the She-Hulk: Attorney At Law trailer was widely positive in the days that came after its release, particularly in terms of overall design and tone of the series, many critics and fans questioned the quality of the VFX design of She-Hulk herself. Many of the problems arise during quicker moments in the trailer, giving the effects a rather questionable look, although some of the action sequences were striking and sensational.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law stars Tatiana Maslany, Mark Ruffalo, Tim Roth, Ginger Gonzaga, Josh Segarra, Jameela Jamil, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Benedict Wong, and Jon Bass.
Jessica Gao is serving as showrunner, while Dana Schwartz, Melissa Hunter, Cody Ziglar, Kara Brown, and Zeb Wells are writing the series with Kat Coiro and Anu Valia directing.
Gao, Coiro, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, and Brad Winderbaum are all credited as executive producers on She-Hulk.
Marvel Studios is producing the series and is expected to drop on Disney+ on August 17, 2022.
