Lady Gaga may be set to play Harley Quinn. Is she the right choice to play her alongside Joaquin Phoenix in Joker 2?

Todd Phillips’ Joker became a huge hit. Even the Academy loved it – so much so that it was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture, with Joaquin Phoenix​​ also winning an Oscar for his performance. And they are notoriously frosty towards comic book films.

It seems like it’s impossible for comic book projects to be ignored. It also looks like the genre is evolving even more, as recent reports suggest that Joker 2 will be a musical.

Comic book TV shows have had musical episodes before. Lucifer and The Flash‘s crossover with Supergirl are among those that have ventured into this genre. Even The Boys season 3 trailer hints to a possible musical episode as well. However, there hasn’t been a comic book movie musical as of yet, and that’s a big jump from what we, the fans, know from the genre in film.

Lady Gaga is the perfect choice to play Harley Quinn in Joker 2

Lady Gaga is among the best and most popular singers in the world. She’s classically trained and has an amazing singing range. Gaga has also been in more than a few movies and TV shows where she’s more than proven herself as one of this generation’s best actors. Nevertheless, she’s entering an arena that’s unlike any other. She’s jumping into nerd culture. A place where fans will judge more harshly than maybe they should. However, this writer has no doubt that Lady Gaga would be a fantastic addition to Joker 2.

First, and most importantly, she can act. Portraying Harley Quinn isn’t something just anybody can do. Her performances in American Horror Story are more than enough to prove that. Secondly, she can sing. It’s not uncommon to have someone fill in for the singing portion of a musical. However, it’s even better when the person can do it themselves. Lady Gaga being able to do both will save time and certainly money.

As of now, nothing is definite. But, if this writer had to guess, Lady Gaga will jump at the opportunity to play Harley Quinn. She seems like someone who would adore bringing the character to life. As fans of Joker the movie, you should hope she does as well. Gaga can add a classy vibe to Harleen Quinzel.
