Chris Evans may be on-board with a return to Marvel as the Fantastic Four’s Human Torch.

As the years go on, we’re seeing more actors playing more than one comic book character. Before any of them continued the trend, Chris Evans did it.

The first character that comes to mind when we think of Evans is Captain America. Evans spent a little under a decade playing the role flawlessly in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He was also Casey Jones in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles CGI movie, Lucas Lee in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and Curtis in Snowpiercer the movie. There’s also a role in a movie that isn’t as revered as the others, but one that remaisn very well-known. That’s Evans’ role as Johnny Storm, a.k.a. the Human Torch, in the 2005 Fantastic Four. A role that he’s willing to reprise.

While on a press tour for Lightyear, MTV News asked Chris Evans if he’d come back as Johnny Storm. He said, “God, wouldn’t that be great? Wouldn’t that be great?” He also went on to say:

"“No, no one’s ever come to me about that. I mean, I don’t exactly look the same anymore. That was 15, almost 20 years ago. Oh my God, I’m old. But I really love that character, but I think… aren’t they doing something now with Fantastic Four?”"

Evans was then reminded about variants in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Evans said, “That would actually be an easier sell to me than coming back as Cap” and that Johnny Storm, “didn’t really get his day.” This writer agrees with everything that Evans said. Especially the last part.

The 2005 Fantastic Four movie is underrated. Granted, there were some moments (like everything involving Victor von Doom) that were awful. Overall, though, it was everything that you’d want from a Fantastic Four project. It was fun, wholesome, and the team was a family just like the Marvel Comics. The Fantastic Four cast itself was a 10 out of 10, particularly Chris Evans. He truly brought the Human Torch to life in every way possible.

As Johnny Storm, Evans was charming, adventurous, and hilarious. He also had great chemistry with his cast. When he was with Ben Grimm (played by Michael Chiklis), the two argued and fought like siblings. Evans portrayed Storm as an annoying and immature little brother to Reed Richards and Sue Storm. He was also very flirty just like the Human Torch in the comics. All of these are things needed for Johnny Storm in the MCU going forward.

Bringing Chris Evans back as Johnny Storm in the long run wouldn’t work. Nevertheless, giving the former Captain America a chance for one last performance works. Evans gets closure with one final performance as the character and MCU fans get to see the star back in the MCU one more time.
