Stranger Things season 4, part 2 has arrived, but what does the future hold for the show? When could Stranger Things season 5 come out?

Netflix fans are thrilled that Stranger Things is back. The streaming service’s biggest show made its return on Friday, May 27, with a bumper-length opening part of its long-awaited fourth season.

It had been three years since the juggernaut streamed new episodes on the service, and the Duffer Brothers hoped to make up for that understandable delay in release with much longer episodes. Yes, every episode of Stranger Things 4 is at least an hour long, making for a lengthy and thrilling watch.

Another thing that is different about the fourth season is that it is split up into two batches of episodes. We have seen Netflix do this in the past with shows such as Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Lucifer, so it’s no surprise that they’ve chosen to do it with a major return like Stranger Things‘ comeback season.

That was undoubtedly good news for fans hoping to make the most of the penultimate season, (even though it meant there would be a bit of a wait between parts one and two!). If you have already binged your way through all of the fourth season, you will undoubtedly want to know what happens next. The good news is that Stranger Things season 5 is in development. That said, when can we expect it?

Stranger Things season 5 release date predictions

Stranger Things has been renewed for a fifth season by Netflix. While a release date has not been confirmed as of yet, production has not yet commenced on the season, meaning that there will be a bit of a wait before the new episodes premiere. The good news is that it shouldn’t be as long as the three-year wait for season 4, with the Duffer Brothers telling Variety:

"“Don’t hold us to it, but the gap should be quite a bit shorter this time, due to the fact that we already have an initial outline, and we can’t imagine there will be another six-month forced hiatus.”"

Taking that into account, we may not see Stranger Things season 5 premiere until late 2023 (at the very earliest) or 2024. That’s just a prediction, though, so it’s best to keep an open mind until Netflix announces the release date.

Season 5 is the show’s final season, so you can rest assured that everything that happens in it will be even more larger-than-life than what we have already seen. With that in mind, buckle up for one more (or two if Netflix decides to split it up again) unforgettable adventure in the Upside Down.
