Is Thor: Love and Thunder Natalie Portman’s last Marvel movie?

Thor: Love and Thunder brought back Natalie Portman as Jane Foster but will this be the last time we see the Mighty Thor?

Natalie Portman made her long-awaited return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Thor: Love and Thunder. The esteemed actress was a significant part of the first two films in the franchise, but her absence in the third movie was felt, with fans questioning the decision to break Thor and Jane up.

However, that ultimately set the stage for her return in Thor 4, and it wasn’t just any old return, as the character ended up wielding Mjolnir and becoming the Mighty Thor – just like her comic book counterpart.

As of writing, Portman has played Jane Foster in Thor (2011), Thor: The Dark World (2013) and Thor: Love and Thunder (2022). She also made a cameo appearance in Avengers: Endgame (2019) through previously unused footage and voice-over. But is Love and Thunder the final appearance for the star in the MCU?

Will Natalie Portman return to the MCU after Thor: Love and Thunder?

At this moment, it remains unclear what the future holds for Natalie Portman’s character. Thor: Love and Thunder saw Jane Foster evolve into the Mighty Thor just like she did in the comics, but it also saw her suffer from stage four cancer. And in the film’s final battle, she succumbed to her illness, a result of her body no longer being capable of fighting it because her use of the mighty hammer was draining her mortal energy.

That said, while Jane died, she did find her way to eternal peace in Valhalla. In the process, she reunited with Heimdall, who looked set to show her around their paradisal setting.

With that in mind, it’s definitely possible that Portman could return in a future installment. Remember, the post-credits scene was followed by the “Thor will return” tease. While that’s probably a reference to Chris Hemsworth’s titular God of Thunder, the possibility of a Jane return isn’t entirely out of the equation. Perhaps when Thor finds his way to Valhalla in the final movie in the franchise, we will see a reunion between the pair.

Let’s hope we haven’t seen the last of Jane Foster because Natalie Portman still has so much more to give.
