Thor 5 release updates: Is Thor 5 happening?

Thor: Love and Thunder brought the God of Thunder back for a new adventure, but will Chris Hemsworth return in a possible Thor 5?

Chris Hemsworth reprised his role as Thor for the ninth time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Thor: Love and Thunder. That’s certainly an impressive feat, but perhaps the more impressive detail features a smaller number, and that is the fact that his hero is the first in the MCU to headline four solo films (outdoing trilogy stars Captain America and Iron Man).

Love and Thunder very much deals with the character’s place in a very new MCU, specifically how lost he feels in the aftermath of not just Avengers: Endgame but after losing a lot of people that he loved. That arc guides Thor’s story as the God of Thunder learns how to feel again, love again and be a hero again. But is the fourth movie in the franchise all about ending his story, or starting a new one?

Is the record-breaking Thor: Love and Thunder the final chapter in the MCU’s Thor story?

Is Thor 5 happening?

It’s too early to tell if Marvel Studios plans on greenlighting Thor 5 but it’s looking like a likely possibility. Without getting into too many details, Love and Thunder started a new chapter for Chris Hemsworth’s hero – one that could see him return for many more offerings if Marvel wanted to tell that story.

The real indicator that he will be back, however, came after the film’s post-credits scenes. Yes, before the film’s concluding seconds, that familiar tease Marvel fans have come to expect from these films returned, as the words “Thor will return” appeared on the screen.

While that doesn’t outright confirm that Thor 5 is happening, it does confirm that we haven’t seen the last of the God of Thunder. Where he will return we don’t know, but as fans who have already seen the movie will know, this new story seems too personal for a future Avengers movie (or any kind of ensemble really).

While it’s best to wait for official confirmation from Marvel Studios, Love and Thunder does confirm one thing: Thor 5 is more likely now than it ever was.
