Is Thor: Love and Thunder the last movie? (Will there be a Thor 5?)

Thor: Love and Thunder was a first for the MCU, but is it also a last for the God of Thunder? What does the future hold?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s Space Viking returned to the silver screen for his fourth solo offering when Thor: Love and Thunder hit screens. Already spreading its lightning at the box office, there was a lot of intrigue surrounding this one, specifically because it’s the first present day-set film starring one of the original MCU heroes in Phase Four.

Given that Chris Hemsworth’s Thor already has three movies to his name, that makes him the first of Marvel Studios’ superheroes to headline his fourth standalone film. A record for the God of Thunder, indeed, but does he plan on continuing that record for another offering?

Love and Thunder was all about Thor figuring out his place in the world after experiencing so much loss, but what comes next for the Avenger?

Is Thor: Love and Thunder the last Thor movie?

If you’re wondering what the future holds for the God of Thunder, you’ll likely want to know if he’s set to return for another movie. Thor: Love and Thunder is a record-breaker in terms of solo movies for heroes, serving as the fourth standalone for Chris Hemsworth’s hero, but is it also the last one in the franchise?

As of this moment, it’s unknown if Thor: Love and Thunder will be the final movie in the Thor film series, but there is definitely scope for another. Without giving anything away, like most MCU movies, Thor 4 leaves the story open in a way that the writers could come back to it in the future. And speaking of the future, we do know that we haven’t seen the last of the hero himself…

Is Thor 5 happening?

While it has yet to be confirmed if Thor 5 will actually happen, Marvel Studios did confirm that the God of Thunder will be back in some future MCU installment as a post-credits tease reads “Thor will return”.

We don’t know how, we don’t know when; but it goes without saying that the most likely option would be a fifth film – particularly because it will take some time to set a new Avengers movie in motion. Then again, perhaps the wait is exactly what Marvel Studios wants.

Of course, those are all just theories and it’s best to wait until Marvel Studios confirms when the God of Thunder will be back. For now, though, we can rest assured that he will be back in some capacity.
