Ms. Marvel concludes its run with an epic season finale, but what does the ending really mean and how does it set up what comes next in the MCU?

Ms. Marvel is one of the two most recent chapters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (the other one being Thor: Love and Thunder). The show premiered on Disney Plus a number of weeks ago and introduced Marvel fans to a brand new hero – one that could be playing a pivotal role in the coming years.

Kamala Khan was a hit with fans and critics – many of whom called Ms. Marvel the best Disney Plus MCU show yet. And it’s easy to see why, as the Captain Marvel super fan showed us all just how amazing she is, when she too became a superhero.

The finale of Ms. Marvel, titled “No Normal”, left things in an interesting place for the MCU, but what does it all mean?

*** Contains spoilers for Ms. Marvel season 1, episode 6 ***

Is Ms. Marvel a mutant?

The season finale of Ms. Marvel saw Kamala Khan step up to protect Kamran and her community from the Department of Damage Control – who were attempting to harm the young super-powered individuals. And in that moment, Ms. Marvel was born.

After she succeeded in her mission, she spoke to Bruno, who revealed that, in spite of the fact that the bangle allowed her to use her powers, there is something specific about Kamala’s DNA that enabled her to wield them.

As for what that something specific is, well according to Bruno it’s a mutation. And yes, that leaves us all wondering if Ms. Marvel is now the MCU’s first mutant. Could this pave the way for the arrival of the X-Men?

How Captain Marvel appeared in the Ms. Marvel finale

Speaking of heroes arriving, the post-credits scene in the finale saw Kamala’s bangle glow spontaneously. After doing so, Ms. Marvel disappears in a collision with the closet door in her bedroom. And from that wreckage, Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) emerges. Seeing the posters of herself on the wall, Carol Danvers is perplexed and confused before storming off to solve the problem.

This scene is obviously designed to set up The Marvels, which will see both Kamala and WandaVision‘s Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) team up with Captain Marvel, but what does it actually mean?

Well, there are multiple possibilities, but the most likely option is that Kamala’s bangle caused her to swap places with Carol, bringing Captain Marvel to her super fan’s house and possibly sending Kamala into space (or wherever Carol was at that point in time).

Then again, there is also the possibility that Kamala morphed into Carol. It’s less likely, yes, but the character was capable of shapeshifting in the comics at one point in time, and given that she was surrounded by Captain Marvel posters, it isn’t impossible.

Whatever happened, it goes without saying that fans will be watching The Marvels when it arrives in movie theaters next year.
