Is Hercules stronger than Thor?
By Mark Lynch
Thor: Love and Thunder has people asking if Hercules is stronger than Thor. The answer to this will shock you.
Thor: Love and Thunder did something that hasn’t been done in any Marvel Studios’ project. It showed a plethora of the gods in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Quetzalcoatl, Ninny of the Nonny (Korg’s god), and, of course, everyone’s favorite, Zeus.
Zeus was the center of attention and just as self centered as you’d expect from the Greek God of Lightning. Even Thor looked up to him. He was the Asgardian God of Thunder’s favorite deity. Unfortunately, as the phrase goes, never meet your heroes.
***WARNING! Major SPOILERS FOR THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER AHEAD!***
Thor pleaded with the gods of Omnipotence City to help him take down Gorr the God Butcher. Zeus denied his request. Not only that, he attempted to keep the God of Thunder and his allies there. This leads to the Odinson defeating Zeus, throwing the God of Lightning’s own lightning bolt at him, and taking the lightning bolt from him.
Of course, the Greek God of Gods wasn’t going to let that stand. In the end-credit scene, Zeus calls on his son Hercules to go after the god who attacked him.
Can Hercules beat Thor?
Thor and Hercules have a fun, friendly, and always hard-hitting rivalry in Marvel Comics. Both of them are the most popular of their pantheon, have major father issues, and have both been Avengers. They’re also intergalactic heroes. Despite their similarities, they can’t seem to end the rivalry unless the stakes are high. The two have been battling each other for literal decades.
After Love and Thunder, it looks like their battles will continue in the MCU. Knowing this, fans have been wondering which of the two gods are stronger. Well, it’s about even.
Hercules’ strength is rarely matched. There were times when he even overpowered the Incredible Hulk – a feat that not even Thor could complete. So, when it comes to physical strength, Hercules is the strongest. It was shown multiple times throughout comics. If you need a perfect example, read Thor: Blood Oath. Herc puts the Odinson in a full nelson and he couldn’t escape. How did he get out? By showing Herc where his power lies. Yes, The God of Thunder used his lightning.
When it comes to power, however, Thor is the winner and it’s not close. His lightning is only part of the package. People forget that Thor holds some of the Odin-Force (now the Thor-Force), Stormbreaker or Mjolnir, and there’s the power of Gaea (his mother) that he rarely uses. That’s on top of him being able to fly and control weather. And let’s not forget that he has a connection to the Phoenix Force as well. All of these are reasons why Thor usually wins their battles. Physical strength is great, but it’s no match for someone who has multiple powers.
Marvel Comics winner: Thor
There’s one last thing to take into consideration going forward. This fight won’t take place in Marvel Comics now. It’s in the MCU and will likely be the focus of a future Thor movie. The Odinson still has the advantage when it comes to powers. Nevertheless, we don’t know how strong Marvel Studios’ version of Hercules will be. He could be strong enough to take lightning-bolts from the God of Thunder. However, this writer doubts it.
We’ll have to wait a few years to see how this plays out. But this writer’s money is on Thor.
