Black Panther: Wakanda Forever release date, casting news and more
By D.J. Rivera
Ever since Marvel confirmed the sequel was in development in 2019, fans have been more than excited to see Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
The first Black Panther film was a box office success and was the first superhero film nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. A sequel to the Marvel Cinematic Universe offering was a no-brainer, and with Ryan Coogler set to write and direct once again, victory seemed guaranteed for the follow-up film.
Unfortunately, Chadwick Boseman passed away at the age of 43, and after some time, discussions began about how the film would move forward now that it was without its star. Victoria Alonso and Kevin Fiege have confirmed on multiple occasions that no digital double or VFX work would be used to replace Boseman, and the role would not be recast.
Despite the tragic loss, Marvel is moving forward with the 30th title in the MCU, and it has been verified that the film will honor Boseman’s legacy as the titular character. Here is everything fans need to know about the Black Panther sequel, including release date, casting news, and more.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever release date
According to Marvel.com, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set to release in theaters on November 11, 2022.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever casting news
It has been confirmed that several castmembers will be reprising their roles from the first film.
- Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia
- Danai Gurira as Okoye
- Letitia Wright as Shuri
- Winston Duke as M’Baku
- Angela Bassett as Ramonda
- Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross
- Florence Kasumba as Ayo
Dominique Thorne will play Riri Williams, whose genius rivals Bruce Banner, and she can build Iron Man suits like Tony Stark. The character will eventually be getting her own series called Ironheart. Michaela Cole has also been added to the roster in an undisclosed role, with some hoping she’ll be playing the MCU’s version of Storm, but nothing has been set in stone yet on that matter.
Daniel Kaluuya, who played W’Kabi, will not return due to scheduling conflicts with Jordan Peele’s Nope.
It is rumored that Tenoch Huerta from The Forever Purge is playing Namor in the sequel, which has not been confirmed. But the character does have a history with Black Panther in the comics, so it isn’t too outlandish to think Marvel’s Aquaman could make his triumphant debut.
There are also rumors that Michael B. Jordan will return as Erik Killmonger despite meeting his demise in Black Panther.
What is the plot of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever?
The official synopsis for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has yet to be officially released, but it has been confirmed that this entry will be much different than its predecessor. The script had to be changed due to the tragic loss, and Lupita Nyong’o has stated that Coogler had reshaped his original ideas for the film to respect Boseman.
In addition, Kevin Feige has said that the sequel’s main goal is to expand the world and characters from Wakanda that fans loved from the previous Marvel feature. Everyone involved seems pretty focused on further developing the narrative the super talented star helped create while also honoring Boseman’s legacy.
When will the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever trailer be released?
