Stakes won’t be drawn at the clapperboard as Mahershala Ali’s Blade produced by Marvel Studios has delayed its shooting schedule…

The Walt Disney Co. has been a media empire behind some of the most popular franchises that have cornered every fabric of pop culture. From Star Wars to Pixar and Marvel, under the horizontal arm of its production labels, Disney arguably has been a conveyor belt of incredible talent and content since 2012.

Save for the odd misstep, Marvel Studios usually do not waver in their slate of films and shows, and as the global pandemic has shown, this has been a problem in overcoming its transgressions.

As per The Cosmic Circus (H/T: The Direct), Marvel’s Blade starring Mahershala Ali as the titular character (also known by his given name Eric Brooks) is delayed in filming once again from July to October 2022. Shooting of the Ali-headlined motion picture was delayed from its initial shooting schedule of September 2021 to the previous production start date before the recent change which has been rumored to be due to extended time being needed to work on the film’s script.

What is the current update of Blade thus far?

Well, Blade under the working title of “Perfect Imprints”, was revealed to begin filming at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, GA, New Orleans, LA, and Morocco, and Milan Ray from 2021’s coming-of-age comedy series The Wonder Years, is the latest cast member attached to Blade. The director, Bassum Tariq, who has been tapped to helm the project since at least late-July 2021 has made contributions to the screenplay which also has been co-written by Stacy Osei-Kuffour.

Plot details so far are scarce though based on the casting call Ray’s “undisclosed role” is suggested to maybe Fallon Grey – daughter of Blade – and The Direct has pointed out the aforesaid half-human vampire hunter may gain help in taking down Dracula from the likes of Taj Mittal and Rachel van Helsing with Kit Harrington’s Dane Whitman in a supporting role.

Why is filming constantly being delayed on Blade?

TCC’s Lizzie Hill has pointed out that the pushback of production start dates gradually has become the norm for the moment amid the effect COVID-19 has had on most film and TV productions.

While difficult to ascertain what the key factors could be surrounding a decision like this, albeit script changes or scheduling, even Ali’s rigorous training regimen to bulk up for the role, what is certain is confidence from the filmmaker and studio execs at Marvel Studios to meet that 2023 release and the Nov. 13 slot may likely be the perceived date that Blade will fall in.
