The Batman should be the catalyst of the DCEU
A reset to a new DCEU featuring the Batman
We don’t know what’s going to happen after The Flash. Ezra Miller got himself into a lot of trouble. Despite his alleged antics, Flash is happening, whether it’s HBO Max or on the big screen, and there should be consequences. In the pages of DC Comics, Flashpoint doesn’t happen without affecting the DC Universe. The same should happen with the DCEU. We know Ben Affleck is out after this film, and Michael Keaton isn’t a long-term answer for the Batman in the DCEU. The Flash should reboot the DCEU and put this version of Batman in the main universe.
Robert Pattinson was excellent as a young Bruce Wayne. Matt Reeves’ take on a more detective-centric Dark Knight was refreshing. Pattinson’s portrayal as a loner detached from his old world is the ideal contrast for the current Justice League. His addition to the main universe could be years after his current timeline. This wouldn’t affect Reeves’ plans for his other Batman films either.
Gotham is its own universe, so zooming the camera into that world is easy. The DCEU should continue to focus on each hero and bring them together. Every DC hero’s film should feel unique to their world. So, The Batman can still feel like Batman without the handcuffs of including the other heroes outside of Gotham.
