Is Rick Grimes returning in The Walking Dead season 11 part 3?

The Walking Dead season 11 part 3 will bring the iconic show to a close next month, but will Andrew Lincoln return as Rick Grimes?

It’s going to be a sad day for fans of The Walking Dead when the iconic AMC TV series concludes in November. The show has been a regular part of the cable network’s schedule, television, and pop-culture for over a decade and it will no doubt be the end of an era when it closes out its incredible run.

The show’s eleventh season is currently ongoing, and when we say “ongoing”, we really mean ongoing. It premiered last August, airing eight weekly episodes before taking a hiatus that October. It then returned in February before airing eight episodes and taking another break in April. The Walking Dead season 11 part 3 returns to screens n Sunday, October 2, with just eight more weekly episodes of the show left to go before it bows out.

But will the show’s original frontman be back for TWD‘s farewell in those episodes? Andrew Lincoln portrayed Rick Grimes on the show for the vast majority of its run, so it would only be right to see him again in the finale. But will it happen?

Will Rick Grimes come back in The Walking Dead season 11?

We last saw Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead‘s ninth season. A powerful departure for the character, no doubt, but the one thing that set it apart from the exits of so many previous major characters is that Rick did not die. In fact, his exit was designed in a way that Andrew Lincoln could return in the future.

While there have been potential teases to Rick’s return in spin-off series The Walking Dead: World Beyond and the main show itself, fans are curious to know if the former sheriff of Alexandria will make his presence felt in The Walking Dead season 11 part 3 when it premieres on AMC in the fall.

When asked about the possibility of a potential return to the series last year, Lincoln told SFX Magazine that he would “never say never to that”, because he considers “everybody that’s still doing the TV show” as dear friends.

It goes without saying that it would be fitting to see the show’s frontman one more time before its series finale concludes.

Regardless of whether he does appear in the final season, we do know that we haven’t seen the last of Rick Grimes.

Are the Rick Grimes movies still happening?

When Andrew Lincoln departed The Walking Dead, it was revealed that we would see Rick Grimes again, as a series of movies centered his character on would explore his future.

Even though the-powers-that-be continued to make progress on the movies in the years that came after its announcement, it was subsequently revealed at San Diego Comic-Con in 2022 that the concept had evolved into a six-part series instead.

Starring Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira as Rick and Michonne, the series promises to explore the rich love story of the pair after their exits from The Walking Dead, seeing if they can find each other all over again  – and themselves in a world that has changed them so dramatically.
