We got a mutant in the MCU, Deadpool and Logan on Disney Plus, will we get an X-Men announcement at the San Diego Comic-Con 2022?

The first mutant was potentially introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe this year, but it wasn’t who any fans of Marvel comics were expecting. That said, is this just the start of the mutants in the MCU?

With San Diego Comic-Con around the corner, could we get some news from Marvel Studios on the mutants we all want in the MCU, the X-Men?

It’s been two long years since we saw anything X-Men related. The New Mutants dropped in August of 2020, after some long delays, but we knew deep down inside that it was the beginning of the end for the X-Men franchise at Fox. After the merger, fans have patiently waited for some signs of the X-Men in the MCU. Kevin Feige and his team knew it too. Why else would Wandavision showrunner Jac Schaeffer and company cast Evan Peters as Pietro? It was a massive swerve that gave fans false hope that Wanda somehow retconned the X-Men into the MCU — we should have known better.

The debut of the X-Men deserves an official announcement, and fans have been speculating. One rumor had Storm making her MCU debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Given the covert nature of Black Panther, we have no idea whether that’s happening or not — though it’s unlikely. That’s what happens when there isn’t any official news — we can only go by our imagination. At least we got to see Patrick Stewart reprise his role as Professor X. Even though his sole purpose was to show us just how strong the Scarlet Witch was.

But is an announcement coming at Marvel Studios’ SDCC panel in Hall H?

Is an X-Men announcement coming from Marvel Studios at SDCC?

There are rumors suggesting we could get an official announcement about the X-Men from Marvel Studios at SDCC. Until it actually happens, though, it’s important to remember that it’s just a rumor and that we don’t know yet if there will be any reference to the mutants’ future at the event.

Now is the perfect time for Kevin Feige to announce an X-Men project. We haven’t heard anything since March of 2021. If you don’t remember, there were previously rumors that the MCU was working on introducing the X-Men as The Mutants. The rumored title was a nod to the original name Stan Lee wanted to call the carriers of the X-gene.

Whatever it’s called, we hope to hear some news coming from Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2022. Until then, though, it’s best to wait and see.
